We have seen an increase of Parvo positive puppies coming into PAH. All of these cases have the same factors…they were unvaccinated or improperly vaccinated as well as not kept in a Parvo-safe area.
Parvo is a 100% preventable disease, but it can live in the environment for up to 10 years. This means if you've had a Parvo positive dog on your property, it’s highly recommended that you do not bring any puppies to your property unless they are COMPLETELY vaccinated (which means 3-4 sets of vaccines by the time they are 17 weeks old). It’s best to keep your pup in a completely Parvo-safe environment. Did you know some farm supply and pet stores sell vaccines over the counter? This is risky because it’s very important to keep the vaccines at a specific temperature while being shipped, stored and transported home. When you buy vaccines over the counter, there is no guarantee that they are not compromised! Is this worth risking your fur baby’s health? We see many Parvo positive puppies caused by failed over the counter vaccines. Call us at 930-5888 for more information on responsible vaccination information.
